　　佳能就在EOS D30上使用了獨立開發的CMOS圖像感應器。歷經5年的發展，這一技術更加成熟，在全線EOS數碼單反相機上，佳能都采用了獨立開發和生產的大型CMOS圖像感應器。EOS 5D使用的CMOS圖像感應器具有1280萬有效像素，最高分辨率達到了4368×2912，即使輸出大幅面照片，仍然有極為精細的畫質。這塊CMOS感應器的尺寸是35.8mm×23.9mm，與35毫米膠片的大小基本相同。在使用廣角鏡頭時，全畫幅感應器有著無可比擬的優勢，無需考慮非全畫幅圖像感應器的鏡頭焦距轉換系數，忠實再現廣角鏡頭的視覺沖擊力。
