本作為一款將1998年所推出的人氣名作RPG「Baldur's Gate」（柏德之門）給重新強化推出的HD高解析對應強化重制版本，並由之前曾經在BioWare擔任游戲設計工程師的「Trent Oster」所新設立的新公司Beamdog內中的游戲開發團隊Overhaul Games負責開發制作。而在游戲引擎方面，則將把原作的Infinity Engine引擎大幅強化改善再利用，並將跟之前版本一樣采用「Dungeons ＆ Dragons」（龍與地下城）官方第二版的規則為基礎來進行制作。除此之外，本作還將會把官方於1999年所推出的資料片「The Sword Coast」（劍灣傳奇）也一並收錄其中。另外附帶一提，官方目前除了正在進行本作的開發制作之外，目前也針對二代「Baldur's Gate II」進行HD重制當中。
至於在這次的游戲改版內容方面，本次除了追加例如混血食人魔黑武士「Dorn Il-Kahn」、混血精靈術士「Neera」與人類武僧「Rasaad yn Bashir」等三名玩家角色讓玩家們選用之外，另外還針對系統等部分進行了超過四百項以上的改良追加，例如像是介面的表現上，或是多人模式的改善等等。另外在本作的動畫方面，也透過歐美知名漫畫家「Nat Jones」協助監修更改為漫畫風格的演出方式，並追加了一個只要LV15之後就可以去冒險探索的地下迷宮「The Black Pit」等等。另外，本作也會收錄之前所推出的資料片「Tales of the Sword Coast」的內容讓玩家們游玩使用，雖然是之前就已經發售過的東西，不過在這次的改版中則將會加入二代「The Shadows of Omn」的追加要素與改善點，玩家們可千萬不要錯過唷！
