游戲模式
《拉力錦標賽2002》為賽車迷帶來了5個主要模式共36個賽道，包括錦標賽（Championship），快速開始(Quick Play)、街機模式(Arcade)、挑戰賽(Challenge)和多人游戲(Multiplayer)，各種模式分別提供不同的玩法於各類玩家，而比較特別的為挑戰賽模式，因為玩家可以通過勝出條件而釋出更多隱藏車款。完全能夠感受到制作者在這集加強了車子的操作性能分別，尤其在加速力和扭力方面的分別最為明顯，而由挑戰賽模式釋出的隱藏車款當然在各方面的性能都會特別強，更會有不少經典名車，玩家可以通過選擇不同的車款來發揮不同的駕駛技巧和享受不同的駕駛感覺。當然，隱藏的並不單止車款，在賽道裡均有眾多捷徑、斜坡和跳台，讓你能挑戰更快的時間賽
音效與圖像
游戲特別注重音效的制作，在游戲內的引擎咆哮，車子急停, 車胎濺起雪等聲效都由原聲灌錄，如果你的聲卡夠好的話，玩家更可辨出不同車款所發出的引擎咆哮聲！圖像方面則會采用上一集圖像引擎的改良版，使動態光影效果更迫真，而且更會有一些特殊效果如塵土飛揚、水花四濺等出現。通過對GeForce 3的特別優化的圖像引擎，使重播系統的畫面質素更能發揮得更淋漓盡致。
