和“變速”的上一部游戲一樣，“變速2”同樣正在由Slightly Mad工作實著手開發。
游戲將采用全新的引擎，還有創新的頭盔攝像機視角，以及在Criterion開發的《極品飛車：熱力追蹤》裡介紹過的下一代版本的汽車用度處理。
這款游戲的首個預告片是作為《熱力追蹤》的額外附加內容，但是很有一看的價值。
EA在8月時曾經公布了《極品飛車：變速》的續作，最近EA Europe VP Pat Soderlund確認了BlackBox會在明年11月發布一款新的《極品飛車》游戲。
除非所有的《極品飛車》游戲都被推遲到2012年，否則的話這將是本世紀首次同年在高清主機和PC平台上發布兩款《極品飛車》游戲。
