《堡壘》是一個原創的動作角色扮演游戲，背景設定在一個郁郁蔥蔥的幻想世界中，玩家要為世界文明的最後幸存者而戰，從過去留下來的殘垣斷壁基礎上建立起一個全世界。玩家控制一個名叫Kid的小孩，在一場把世界分裂成大大小小的漂浮島嶼的大災難過後，建立起一個避風港。在玩家進入未知的荒野中搜尋幸存者和補給品之時，會遇到奇怪的野獸，要鑄造出大量可以定制的武器，從特別的精靈身上獲取新的能力。本作的故事長達8-10個小時。 本作具有獨特的互動故事風格和手繪的高清環境場景。玩家的目標是在大災難Calamity事件把世界分割成一個個飄浮的島嶼後，建立起一個安全的避風港。玩家進入荒蕪的未知世界，尋找幸存者和補給，依靠一系列可定制的武器和靈力與怪物作戰。
