Quark 公司這個秋季發布的QuarkXPress 全新版本，目的是鞏固它在專業桌面出版方面的地位，並對抗 Adobe 公司 InDesign 產品。
QuarkXPress 8是2006年發布的QuarkXPress 7的後續版本，它在排版領域首次采用了開放界面、PDF/X和 Unicode 特色。
　　追溯到2002年，Adobe抓住Quark松懈的時機，推出了基於Mac OSX的第一個桌面排版設計工具，從而將Quark擊敗。緊接著，Adobe通過把排版設計軟件和它流行的Photoshop、Illustrator和 Flash設計套裝進行捆綁銷售，從而來不斷蠶食Quark的市場份額。
　　Quark足足晚了一年才推出適用於Mac OS X的軟件，但現在它已經咬緊牙關追了上來，Quark比Adobe早八個月推出支持Intel Mac 的QuarkXPRess 7.01。
　　去年，Quark通過升級使軟件支持Windows Vista和Mac OS X 10.5 Leopard。而InDesign5.0.2的最新版本於2008年1月份推出，它仍不能完全支持Leopard。Adobe在升級報告中指出，這個應用程序很有可能從 Leopard撤離出去。目前Quark打算通過它的QuarkXPress 8與Adobe的流行Creative Suite進行抗衡。
　　據知情人士透露，QuarkXPress的下一版本采用了新的布局和界面、更多功能的快捷圖標、可縮放的導航頁面等。新版本使用的標准鍵盤快捷方式主要是為了使用戶在多個應用程序之間更能熟悉地、有效率地工作。
　　此外，這個升級版本支持Illustrator 和Photoshop文件，提供更多的圖片處理功能。Quark增加了Flash的創作工具可制作交互式網頁。Adobe的Open ScreenProject可以進一步支持創建Flash內容，但是Adobe需要面對很多需解決的問題。
　　QuarkXPress 8.0也添加了改進之後的國際出版特征，支持39種印刷技術輸出語言，支持東亞語言，如日語、韓語以及中文。它同樣也可以影響通用的文件格式，使兩個領域內的文件可以更容易地進行交換。
　　此外，QuarkXPress 8.0在制作陰影和特效方面更為靈活，通過Quark Job Jackets可以輸出PDF/X Plus，所見即所得的字體菜單。此外，用戶還可以編輯Design Grids（設計網格）和Grid Style（網格樣式）。
