This book had its earliest beginnings in materials prepared for use by senior medical students who, after completing their required gross anatomy courses, desired an opportunity for more in-depth anatomical studies and requested a course in sectional anatomy.
Although several books have been produced recently on sectional anatomy, none appear to be intended as detailed, comprehensive anatomies. Many of these texts appear to be designed to demonstrate and teach the correlations between sectional anatomy and MR and CT images at an introductory level. Because of the tremendous technological advances that have been made in imaging, radiologists have become partners with anatomists in making important contributions to an understanding of sectional anatomy and in playing leading roles in investigations of gross and applied anatomy.
