Recorded live at Club Quattro, Tokyo, Japan on August 31, 1998.The album begins with the comical sounds of a crowd of crazed Japanese people chanting "Wayyyy-dah, Wayyyy-dah" (the Jap-term for VADER). VADER are considered gods in Japan, so it is befitting that their latest live-album be recorded there. I must say right now, before I continue, that this is the best live-album I own, VADER are PRIMED for live-performance. They have the kind of music that turns crowds into giant, contorting pools of moshers and thrashers. This album puts you right in the middle of it all, you can almost smell the sweaty stench of the crowd if you crank it up loud enough!!!
Excellent production, tight performance, screaming guitar-leads, this album has everything. Considering the great difficulty of reproducing brutal Death Metal in a live-album-format, and this is a monumental achievement. The band plays choice cuts from all of their albums. Standouts are opener "Sothis", the classic "Silent Empire", "Blood Of Kingu", and the band's brutal rendition of SLAYER's "Raining Blood". I had always wondered if Doc could reproduce such inhumanly fast playing live, and I am still quite shocked to report that he plays FASTER here than on the albums! Also, Peter's vocals have a clever echo effect placed on them to give the album a more "arena death" effect, which I like. And the guitars have that oh-so-infectious VADER-heaviness to them that gives you the mandatory goosebumps on the back of your neck.
